Civil Activist Detained by De Facto Tskhinvali Released
Media reports say that civil activist Tamar Mearakishvili, who was illegally detained in Akhalgori by de facto Prosecutor’s Office of Georgia’s Russian occupied South Ossetia (Tskhinvali) on Wednesday evening, has been released.
The family of Mearakishvili reports that she was notified only at the de facto prosecutor's office that she was accused of spreading defamatory information about Spartak Dreyev, a member of de facto president Bibilov's party.
They also claim that following on from the transfer of Tamar Mearakishvili to Tskhinvali, de facto South Ossetian law enforcers searched their house and addressed them impolitely.
Despite the fact that Merarakishvili is at home now, her family says the the de facto Prosecutor’s Office has not finished her interrogation, and she has been summoned to their office at 9.30 am on August 18.
After the detention of the activist, Georgia’s Public Defender, Ucha Nanuashvili released a statement and called on the de facto authorities to immediately release her.
The statement also reads that the actions against Mearakishvili are targeted to make her leave occupied Akhalgori forever.
