Local Government Election Date Announced
The President of Georgia Giorgi Margvelashvili announced the local government election date in a briefing earlier today, set for October 21, 2017.
The presidential act has been counter-signed by the Prime Minister of Georgia already, meaning the pre-election campaign has now officially started, with all related restrictions coming into force.
According to the election code, the restrictions apply to the use of the administrative resources in support of or against any political party/candidate participating in the elections.
Furthermore, according to the regulations, media outlets are required to provide fair and balanced coverage, providing free advertising time to all the candidates no later than 50 days prior to the election date.
