Georgia Celebrates Mariamoba

The orthodox Christian church celebrates the Assumption of Mary into Heaven, often shortened to the Assumption and also known as the Feast of Saint Mary the Virgin, on August 28. In Georgia, this day is called Mariamoba, regarded as one of the major religious celebrations in the country.

On this day and according to Christian belief, God assumed the Virgin Mary into heaven following her death.

Catholicos- Patriarch Ilia II is performing a liturgy at the Sioni Cathedral today, as the holy mass is performed in all the churches and cathedrals on the territory of Georgia.
