New Theater Production Based on Stalin's Gulag Camps
A new theatre production entitled 'Aljiri' will be held in 2 different locations within Georgia, with the initial performance taking place in Batumi on September 6. The production will be held at the Griboedov Theater at 20:00.
Chiatura will host the next performance of the show on September 9 at the State Drama Theater.
"Algeria" - is Avtandil Varsimashvili's narrative drama. The revived story is based on a true story, written about 'Gulag', one of the worst effected areas of Stalin's epoch. The term 'Gulag' is commonly used to reference any forced-labor camp in the Soviet Union
The performance in Griboedov Theater is the first to be held in Georgia, and depicts the terrible events that took place in the 20th century.
8,000 women were sentenced to the camp in total, including 281 women from Georgia.
Actors participating in the production include: Lyudmila Artomiova-Mgebrishvili, Ina Voobiova, Natalia Voroniku, Nino Kikacheishvili, Mariam Kitia, Sophie Lomjaria and Ana Nikolava.
The tour is supported by the company "Somari".
