Explosion at London Tube Assessed as Terror Attack

Scotland Yard has reported that Friday’s explosion at an underground station train in south-west London is being treated as terrorism.

The blast occurred at 08:20 BST (07:20 GMT) at Parsons Green District Line station.

As reported, some passengers were injured during the blast, however, the exact number of wounded has not yet been confirmed.

BBC reports that Prime Minister Theresa May tweeted: "My thoughts are with those injured at Parsons Green and emergency services who are responding bravely to this terrorist incident."

The government's emergency committee, COBRA also held a meeting.

Witnesses described seeing at least one passenger with facial injuries.

Others have spoken of "panic" as alarmed passengers left the train at Parsons Green station.

The Guardian reports that the Mayor of London, Sadiq Khan, said the city “utterly condemns the hideous individuals who attempt to use terror to harm us and destroy our way of life”.

He urged Londoners to remain calm and vigilant.

The United Kingdom terrorism threat level is at severe.

CNN reports that St Mary's Hospital in Paddington, central London, has declared a "major incident" following the blast.

Since March 2017 at least three attacks blamed on an Islamist motivation have claimed lives in Britain, with officials saying that a further six plots have been thwarted. One attack in June was blamed on an extreme right wing motivation.
