Georgia’s Prime Minister meets Angela Merkel - Germany’s Chancellor
Georgian Prime Minister Giorgi Kvirikashvili met with Angela Merkel, Germany’s Chancellor, today.
Kvirikashvili, as reported, congratulated Merkel and her political party winning the recent parliamentary elections, noting that it’s very important for Europe.
The parties then discussed the dynamics of political and economic cooperation between Germany and Georgia, as Prime Minister Kvirikashvili talked about the ongoing reforms and the economic situation in Georgia. Following the information from the Prime Minister’s press-office, it’s been said that Georgia has favourable conditions for foreign investments, acknowledged by the rankings from international institutions.
Kvirikashvili mentioned that the carried out and ongoing reforms in Georgia, signing the EU Association Agreement and Visa Liberalization and the stable and democratic political climate create perfect conditions for the German business sector to consider Georgia for creaing more business, that will be beneficial for both countries. The PM of Georgia also pointed out the importance of political and economic links to EU, stressing that the strengthening and development of both communication and infrastructure ties is crucial not only for Georgia, but for the region as a whole, and also for Eastern Partnership and the EU.
Both leaders spoke about global security issues and specifically Georgia in this regard, alongside Georgia’s participation in the Resolute Support Mission in Afghanistan.
The Russian-Georgian conflict and the situation in the occupied territories and occupation line have also been discussed during the meeting, highlighting the steps the country’s undertaking for the peaceful resolution of the conflict, while the significant role of the EU in the peaceful resolution was also underlined.
The meeting of the two countries leaders was held at the federal chancellor’s administration, with Georgian government officials attending also.
