Georgian Capital Celebrates Tbilisoba

This weekend Georgian capital Tbilisi is celebrating an annual festival Tbilisoba, which celebrates both the city and country’s cultural and historical diversity.

The two-day festival features a range of entertainment, including open-air concerts, traditional music and dance, cultural events and a lot of food and wine.

The main activities of the festival take place in the Old City, but smaller pockets of celebrations throughout the city can be seen in the other districts of the city as well.

The activities began at 12PM on Saturday: pavilions representing the capitals twinned with Tbilisi set up in Europe Square, a fair and exhibition of classic and new cars on Metekhi Bridge, children’s culinary classes, archeology for children and quizzes to be held in the New Tiflis, Agmashenebeli area and a kite festival and master-classes for little ones in Rike Park.

Adults can enjoy a festival of Georgian wine on day one of the festival from 12 to 10 PM, visit an exhibition of Georgian produce, and attend a costume performance with musicians and actors in New Tiflis until 9PM.

A festival of sweets and master-classes from famous chefs is promised for the New Tiflis area, and a fruit festival is to be held on Sioni Street.

Along with the packed program of culinary and wine tasting events, a photo exhibition, flower show and sports activities during the weekend, music lovers will also get a chance to attend numerous concerts during the Tbilisi City Fest, with and City Hall’s Big Band concert alongside dance performances, and electronic music concerts by DJ Ericsson, DJ Sumo, and DJ Third.

The festival will end with the Award Ceremony for Honorary Citizens of Tbilisi and Gala Concert at Legvtakhevi on Sunday evening.

Georgian Prime Minister Giorgi Kvirikashvili had a walk at renovated Agmashenebeli Avenue and he congratulated the city residents with the festival.

“I would like to congratulate everybody with this beautiful festival. I wish everyone had such good mood as it is here, in this district,” he said.

The PM added that Tbilisoba is a special festival for the whole country, which fills people with joy.

The first Tbilisoba festival was held in 1979.
