Georgia Condemns Terror Attack on Egyptian Law Enforcement Forces
Georgia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) has “strongly” condemned the October 21, 2017 terror attack on the Egyptian Law Enforcement Forces in El Wahat, that resulted in the death of dozens of policemen and left many others injured.
“Georgia strongly condemns terrorism in all its forms and expresses support to the efforts of the Government of Egypt, who are aimed on building a stable and peaceful state. We express hope that perpetrators of this brutal act will be brought to justice,” the statement of Georgian MFA reads.
The Ministry also offered condolences to the Government of Egypt and the families of those who were killed during the terrorist attack, and wished a speedy recovery to those who have been injured.
At least 54 police, including 20 officers and 34 conscripts were killed when a raid on a militant hideout, south-west of Cairo, was ambushed, according to officials.
The Guardian reports that the firefight was one of the deadliest for Egyptian security forces in recent years.
The exchange of fire began in the al-Wahat al-Bahriya area in Giza province, about 135km (84 miles) south-west of Cairo.
