Interior Ministry Says Road Accidents Reduced by 14% in 2017

The Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) of Georgia reports that for the first time in the last ten years, a reduction of traffic accidents was seen this year for the first time.

The statistics of 10 months in 2017 show that traffic accidents decreased by 14% compared to the same period last year.

Furthermore, the number of  road-related deaths decreased by 7% and the number of injured by 12% in the given period.

The Ministry of Internal Affairs stated that they are continuing a long-term program for the reduction and prevention of road accidents in Georgia, which includes technological reform, legislative changes and social campaigns.

“Within the framework of the program, on July 1, 2017, amendments to the Code of Administrative Offenses took effect; the system of scores and contactless patrolling were launched. Starting from November 1, the so-called smart cameras and video fines also took effect," the statement of MIA reads.
