Mikheil Janelidze to Sign Lapis Lazuli Agreement while on a Visit to Turkmenistan
Mikheil Janelidze, Vice Premier and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Georgia, is on a visit to Ashkhabat, Turkmenistan, to participate in the seventh regional economic conference, Regional Economic Cooperation for Afghanistan (RECCA VII); with high ranking officials from 60 countries attending, and to sign the transport agreement between Georgia, Turkey, Avghanistan, Turkmenistan and Azerbaijan known as Lapis Lazuli, planned during Janelidze’s visit to Ashkhabat.
With signing the Lapis Lazuli Corridor Agreement, Georgia becomes a member of another very important Euro-Asian transport corridor, as the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Georgia states. The Lapis Lazuri agreement signing entails the free and unlimited transportation of goods and passenger flow, within the five countries, alongside harmonizing the procedures and simplifying the administrative issues related to transportation, the announcement from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs says.
“The Lapis Lazuli Corridor agreement is one of the most important agreements in the region. Trade expansion in the region, regional connectivity, resolving transit and trade problems will be the long-term aims of this corridor,” MoFA Economic Cooperation Director, Hassan Soroosh, said.
During his visit to Turkmenistan, Mikheil Janelidze will meet with Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan, Rasit Meredow.
