Giorgoba - St George’s Day Celebrated in Georgia

Today, November 23, Saint George’s day is celebrated in Georgia, with Patriarch Ilia II conducting a mass in Kashueti St. George Cathedral, Tbilisi, and later to be baptising children at the Sameba Holy Trinity Church, forming part of the Saint George’s Day celebration. 

Saint George’s Day or 'Giorgoba' as Georgians call it, is officilly celebrated twice, on May 6 and November 23 in the country.

Saint George is regarded as a protector and patron of shepherds and travelers, and is reffered as one of the patron saints of the country.
