GD Launches Election Campaign to Activate its Regional Organizations
Georgia’s current ruling party Georgian Dream – Democratic Georgia (GD) has launched its election campaign. Eka Beselia, one of the leaders of the parliamentary majority, told press representatives that in this regard a list of events had been agreed with the head of the party, Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili.
“The party, which is the main political force and plans to continue fulfillment of its commitments, needs to be ready for this very significant period,” MP Beselia noted.
According to Zviad Kvachantiradze, another member of the party, Georgian Dream has planned to activate the work of the party regional organizations. He explained that in several cases the current heads of the organizations will be replaced. The party is also expected to appoint executive secretaries for several regional organizations.
Both party members, Beselia and Kvachantiradze, noted that GD will hold party conferences throughout Georgia in September.
Georgian Dream, the current ruling party in Georgia came to power after the 2012 general elections, where the GD coalition won 54.94% votes, initially occupying 85 seats in the 150 seat Georgian Parliament.
The next general elections in the country are to be held in 2016, though the concrete date for the voting is not known yet. It is also unknown whether GD will run as a separate political entity or work in a coalition in the upcoming elections.
