The System of Justice Remains our "Achilles' heel” - President Margvelashvili

It is the system of justice that remains the “Achilles heel” of Georgia since its independence, President Giorgi Margvelashvili said, commenting on his appointment of Ana Dolidze, his Parliamentary Secretary, as a non-judge member of the High Council of Justice of Georgia. 

During the governmental changes of 2012, everyone had high hopes and expectations that the judiciary system would undergo qualitative improvement. Unfortunately, many questions still remain unanswered to this day, the President lamented.  

“An independent court system is one of the principal foundations of our statehood. Not only does it provide legal protection to our citizens, it is a key guarantor for balancing our state and ensuring that it functions in a democratic and legal manner. Meanwhile, the High Court of Justice is one of the bodies in charge of ensuring the independence and effective functioning of the judicial system. We have repeatedly stated that the legislative base in the justice system needs improvement. Among them, the legislative base of the High Council, which would make the body more transparent and effective, is to be improved. 

..My decision to appoint Ana Dolidze to this highly responsible post is motivated by her professionalism, courage and values, which she has demonstrated for many years," he said.
