Epiphany Celebrated by Georgian Church Today

Georgian Orthodox Church celebrates Epiphany (Natlisgeba) today, January 19, with a liturgy held by Ilia II, Catholicos Patriarch of Georgia at the Holy Trinity Sameba Cathedral in Tbilisi, followed by a blessing of the water ritual in the Cathedral yard, with Catholicos Patriarch Ilia II addressing the perish after the liturgy is over.

Epiphany day is the day when, according to Christian beliefs, Jesus was Baptised in the Jordan River; revealing he was the son of God.

There will be a mass baptizing ceremony for children, to be held in Sameba Cathedral on January 21, led by Catholicos Patriarch of Georgia, first initiated in 2008.
