Georgia’s Largest TV Company Faces Attack
The court of Georgia has sequestred all shares from Georgia’s largest TV Company, Rustavi 2, on behalf of the Georgian businessman Kibar Khalvashi, who filed the lawsuit in order to regain his share in the company.
Company Head Nika Gvaramia says they will appeal the decision, citing the lawsuit is ‘politically motivated’ and announced a large-scale legal battle in order to defend the company’s interests. Gvaramia states that Rustavi 2 is of existential importance to Georgian Democracy and at the same time accused the government of standing behind Kibar Khalvashi.
“Any Judge that signs an illegal order concerning Rustavi 2 will be signing his/her professional end [death]” Gvaramia declared.
The public are very much behind the broadcasting company, which is regarded as the most qualified and liked media institute in the country.
MP Zurab Japaridze however, stated in a press conference that this event will inarguably affect Georgia’s image and democratic development.
“I would like to address those who decided to carry out this plan. There will be no victory for them in this war and the outcome will be negative for everybody involved, including the government,”- the MP emphasized.
