Georgian Singers in Putin Supporting Video Clip

Keta Topuria, a Georgian singer who is a member of the Russian music band A-Studio, and Grigory Leps (Lepsveridze), a Russian singer-songwriter of Georgian origin, have appeared in a song supporting Russian President Vladimir Putin.

The appearance of Georgian singers in the clip was followed by harsh criticism from Georgian society, who took social networks to slam Topuria and Leps.

The video clip named ‘Guiding Star’ was created within the framework of the campaign "Putin Team", supporting Russia's current President, who is all but certain to seek a new term in office.

Alongside Topuria and Leps, the clip features dozens of famous Russian singers and celebrities.

The idea of forming the Team Putin campaign belongs to the Russian hokey player Alex Ovechkin. He said his movement was called “Putin Team”, an idea derived from a cliche “Putin’s team” used by Western media.

Russia's Presidential elections are scheduled for March 18, 2018. Putin, a 65-year-old former KGB spy, has been President of Russia for 18 years now. He has no serious rival in this year's elections. One of his rivals, Alexei Navalny, who has been criticizing Putin's corrupt regime for years, was not allowed by the Russian Central Election Commission to run in the race.
