Tbilisi City Hall Set to Develop "Night Economy"
The phrase "Night Economy" was used for the first time in the early 1990s, when well-known theorists, economists and urbanists found that the city center took on a completely different character during the night-time, but began to develop and refine its concepts several years ago.
The ‘Night Economy’ involves restaurants, bars and nightclubs that are most active from 6 pm to 6 am.
Tbilisi City Hall discussed developing the night-time economy and presented a new candidate, Sergi Gvarjaladze, to lead this project. Journalist, producer, TV presenter Sergi Gvarjaladze has been appointed as the official director of the Tbilisi Economy Project. Gvarjaladze's position, which is sometimes referred to as "Mayor of the night", provides mediation between the city's local Government and night-time businesses; or stakeholders involved in the night economy. The aim is to deepen relations between several sectors of economy and the municipality, in order to increase the tourism potential of the city.
