Georgia, Azerbaijan Sign Bilateral Cooperation Plan 2018

Azerbaijani and Georgian Defense Ministries have signed a plan of bilateral cooperation for 2018 in Baku.

The agreement was signed by Georgia’s Defense Minister, Levan Izoria, and his Azerbaijani colleague, Zakir Hasanov.

The sides exchanged views on the prospects for cooperation in military, military-technical, military-educational and military-medical spheres, holding of joint military exercises, working meetings and issues of mutual interest.

Stressing the important role of the friendly relations between the Azerbaijani and Georgian Presidents in the development of ties between the two countries, Izoria emphasized the need for such meetings in terms of expanding cooperation.

Stressing that the two countries cooperate in the military sphere by ensuring the security of regional economic projects, programs implemented both bilaterally and within NATO, as well as in the Azerbaijan-Turkey-Georgia military format, Hasanov explained the importance of expanding the boundaries of this cooperation.

Georgia’s Izoria also met Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev. The sides expressed mutual support of the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the two states and discussed cooperation as well as regional issues.

Aliyev commended the long-term successful development of the bilateral cooperation in a variety of fields, including the military sector, adding that Izoria's visit to Azerbaijan created a good opportunity to discuss cooperation prospects in this area.

Touching upon Georgia-Azerbaijan-Turkey cooperation, the Georgian Minister described it as an important factor in strengthening regional stability.
