Georgian Leaders Congratulate Merkel on Her Reelection as German Chancellor
Georgian Prime Minister, Giorgi Kvirikashvili, has congratulated Angela Merkel on her reelection as German Chancellor.
Kvirikashvili expressed confidence that with Merkel’s leadership, Germany and the European Union will continue a successful development.
“Georgia constantly feels and appreciates Germany’s special support for the independence, sovereignty, democratic development and economic upheaval of our country, which is a great contribution of Chancellor Merkel. I am sure that 200 years of friendship between our peoples will be further strengthened,” the PM’s statement reads.
Congratulations to Angela Merkel on her confirmation as Chancellor. Looking forward to working together and continuing close cooperation and centuries old friendship between #Georgia and #Germany.

The President of Georgia, Giorgi Margvelashvili also congratulated Merkel.
He said that the German people voted for their country's advancement, peace, security and stability to achieve further welfare and success.
Margvelashvili stated that the Federal Republic of Germany will successfully go through the existing challenges and achieve new heights for its prosperous development.
“Taking this opportunity, let me underline that Georgia highly values its friendly and mutually beneficial relations with your country. I am convinced that with joint efforts, the long lasting friendship and cooperation between Georgia and the Federal Republic of Germany will be further strengthened and deepened for the mutual benefit of our two nations,” the President’s letter reads.

Germany's Parliament elected Angela Merkel for her fourth term as chancellor on Wednesday.
Among the 692 MPs to vote in a secret ballot at the Bundestag, 364 voted in favor of another term for the 63-year-old Christian Democrats (CDU) leader and 315 voted against (nine abstained and four votes were invalid). With only nine votes above the needed majority, Merkel’s victory is her narrowest since she first took office in 2005.
She will now begin a historic fourth term as Chancellor.
