Georgian, Turkish Interior Ministers Meet in Tbilisi
Georgian Vice-Premier and Interior Minister Giorgi Gakharia and his Turkish counterpart Süleyman Soylu signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) on strengthening border security cooperation between both the Interior Ministries of Georgia and Turkey.
The MOU, which enables the parties to deepen cooperation in combating organized cross-border crime and strengthening the security of both countries, was signed during Süleyman Soylu’s visit to Tbilisi on Friday.
The sides discussed the effective cooperation between the law enforcement agencies of Georgia and Turkey. Gakharia emphasized the contribution of police attachés with regards to the deepening cooperation in the field of international law.
The Georgian Minister informed his college about both planned and implemented reforms in Georgia’s Interior Ministry, including the results achieved in terms of fighting organized crime.
The parties also talked about the joint commission, set up on the basis of an agreement signed between the Governments of Georgia and Turkey, which annually gathers and discusses organized crime, drug crimes, human trafficking, terrorism and other important issues.
