Putin Re-Elected as Russian President

Vladimir Putin has won the Russian Presidential election by an overwhelming majority.

Putin, who first came to power as Prime Minister in 1999, received more than 76% of the vote, official results show.

Mr Putin stated that voters had "recognised the achievements of the last few years" whilst addressing crowds in the Russian capital.

The unsurprising result surpassed even the 2012 election, when he won by 64%.

Other Presidential candidates included Ksenia Sobchak, a former reality TV host, who received only 2% of votes, and veteran nationalist Vladimir Zhirinovsky, who got 6%.
