Georgian PM Awards British Government Adviser Sir Garry Johnson

The Prime Minister of Georgia, Giorgi Kvirikashvili has awarded the British Government Adviser on Security and Crisis Management Issues, Sir Garry Johnson.

Sir Johnson received a special award from the PM for “particular contribution to strengthening Georgia's defense and security sphere.”

The sides discussed cooperation in foreign policy, defense and security and challenges in the region.

The meeting also focused on structural changes to the Emergency Management Agency of the Ministry of Internal Affairs and the reorganization of the State Security and Crisis Management Board, which resulted in the Emergency Management Agency.

The Prime Minister thanked the Advisor of the Government of Great Britain for the assistance in the process of creating a National Situation Room, which was established in accordance with the British model.

Sir Garry Johnson was also hosted by the Georgian President, Giorgi Margvelashvili.

According to President Margvelashvili, considering the current escalated security threats, it is especially alarming that Georgia’s national security system is unable to adequately answer to existing challenges and hybrid threats.

“As a result of the legislative and governmental changes implemented in the country, Georgia’s national security system answers less adequately to challenges than before and requires corrections,” the President Margvelashvili said.
He underlined that engagement of Georgia's partners, including the UK, in the development and improvement of Georgia’s national security system is crucial.
