100th Anniversary of the Democratic Republic of Georgia
2018 marks the 100th anniversary of the declaration of the Democratic Republic of Georgia. The Georgian Prime Minister, Giorgi Kvirikashvili today announced plans to celebrate the anniversary throughout the country.
"We plan a large-scale program to be implemented in Georgia’s regions and different countries, with the participation of all state institutions and our embassies. The private sector has joined us, and I would like to urge its representatives to engage to the best of their ability in duly celebrating this festivity," he said, adding that, " the festive spirit must be felt equally in every region of Georgia. May 26 must become a universal feast, joyful and festive, like the other holidays we celebrate.
"At 5:10 PM, May 26, in remembrance of when the National Council of Georgia unanimously adopted the Act of Independence in 1918, the entire nation will hold its breath and celebrate the greatest holiday related to the 100th anniversary of the declaration of our country as an independent republic."
The Prime Minister announced that around 200 events are to be held, with more detials to follow.
