Development Minister Alavidze Resigns, Maia Tskitishvili New Minister
Unexpected news reached the Georgian public this morning as Minister of Regional Development and Infrastructure Zurab Alavidze officially resigned, according to a statement made by Prime Minister Giorgi Kvirikashvili at the Government Administration building.
Alavidze had approached the PM a few days ago, voicing his intention to step down for private reasons as he goes back to the private sector. The PM praised Alavidze’s success and impactful time in office as a "harbinger of efficient bureaucracy, spurring development in rural and urban areas through new long-lasting partnerships."
The PM specifically mentioned the four-point plan as one of the main contributions by Alavidze’s ministry and thanked him for his dedicated and committed work.
Zurab Alavidze assumed the office of Minister of Regional Development and Infrastructure on November 29, 2016.
At the briefing, the PM immediately appointed Maia Tskitishvili as Alavidze's replacement. Tskitishvili has led the Governmental Administration since November 1, 2012. In her function, she was also responsible for the Chancellery of Georgia. "I am confident that Maia will be a very successful minister and I'm sure we will see a lot of success in terms of spatial development," the Pm said, welcoming Maia Tskitishvili to her new position.
