Armenians Protest against PM Serzh Sargsyan
Armenian opposition parties and ordinary citizens are protesting against the former President Serzh Sargsyan who was on Tuesday elected on the position of the Prime Minister with 77 votes for and 18 against.
Armenian lawmakers elected the prime minister for the first time in Armenia’s history after the Constitution was amended and Armenia changed its form of government and handed more powers to the prime minister.
Serzh Sargsyan was nominated by the Republican Party of Armenia and ARF Dashnakustyun.
The protesters are against of Serzh Sargsyan’s staying in power. Thousands of participants of My Step initiative started marching from Republic Square through the central streets of the capital.
Armenian media outlet news.am reported that the route of the march is not known yet, the last stop will be the Republic Square.
It was noted that the demonstrators will not spend the night at France Square.
Befre that, Protesters led by the head of the opposition Way Out Faction of the National Assembly (NA) Nikol Pashinyan, surrounded the buildings of the State Revenue Committee and about a dozen other state institutions, virtually bringing the work to a standstill.
Thousands of protesters marched along central streets in order to block other state institutions and organize sit-ins there.
As reported earlier, Armenian opposition leader, MP Nikol Pashinyan has announced the start of a national velvet revolution. He urged the protesters to sit in front of the buildings not to let anyone out unless they join the rally.
Pashinyan urged to continue civil disobedience starting from 10 am on Wednesday.
Addressing a huge crowd at Republic Square, Pashinyan called to surround government buildings, close down streets and highways the way they did it on Tuesday.
Pashinyan promised to set up a revolutionary committee that will be coordinating all actions. He said the opposition rallies will enter the second stage tomorrow, and the entire capital city will be paralyzed.
