Sargysan Resigns as Armenian PM

Following mass protests that lasted 11 days after ex-President Serzh Sarksyan was elected Prime Minister, he has decided to step down from office.

"The street movement is against my tenure. I am fulfilling your demand," he said in a statement.

His announcement came soon after opposition leader Nikol Pashinyan was released from detention and following calls from the international community to find a peaceful solution to the heightened situation.

He spoke "addressing all citizens of the Republic of Armenia... for the last time as leader of the country," adding, "Nikol Pashinyan was right. I was wrong. The situation has several solutions, but I will not take any of them. That is not mine. I am leaving the office of the country's leader, of Prime Minister."
