PM Calls on Georgians to Join Anti-drug Campaign
Georgian Prime Minister Giorgi Kvirikashvili has called on the members of government, celebrities, artists, sportsmen and scientists to launch a joint campaign against drugs to prevent consumption and trade in the country.
“We all should launch a wide campaign against drugs. This is necessary to save our future generations,” Kvirikashvili said at the government meeting today.
The PM explained that society, especially youth, should realize that a healthy lifestyle is of utmost importance.
He noted the loss of a number of young Georgian lives of late due to the drug consumption, adding that some people linked the incidents to the new amendments being prepared by the government.
“This is not correct. These amendments are aimed at creating a more specific and clear environment about drug consumption and trade. On the one hand, the state should be more humane towards the people who are in such trouble, but on the other hand, the state should be strict in relation to dealers,” he explained.
The PM thanked the Ministry of Internal Affairs for its efforts in detaining a number of drug dealers recently.
“I want everyone to know that the state will be very strict in relation to drug dealers,” he added.
