Girchi Leader Japaridze: I Had to Open a Bar to Terminate MP Mandate

"I demanded my MP status to be terminated and they did not do it, so I had to open a bar to terminate the mandate," Zurab Japaridze, the leader of the opposition political party Girchi, told reporters.

Japaridze claims it is difficult to detain him because he is protected by his MP Mandate.

"The bar will not be closed until I am physically detained. My detention is difficult in this case, I have the status of an MP at the moment thanks to them. I demanded my MP status to be terminated and they did not do it. They will have to appeal to the Parliament of Georgia now to terminate my mandate. I had to open a bar to terminate the mandate," he noted.

Last night, the Labor Inspectorate entered the bar 'With Japara' which was opened as a sign of disobedience against the current coronavirus-related restrictions imposed throughout the country, and fined the facility 2000 GEL.

The Labor Inspectorate representatives claim that if the bar continues to operate despite the fine, then it will be sealed.
