Mayor, Interior Minister Meet Ultra-Nationalist Groups
Interior Minister Giorgi Gakharia and Tbilisi Mayor Kakha Kaladze arrived at the gathering of ultra-nationalist, far-right Georgian nationalist groups, after they spoke with the representatives of the first group of protesters.
The Minister stated that counter-rally participants are also Georgian citizens and have the right to express their position. He called on the national groups to peacefully leave the territory and respect the police.
As reported, several members of the far-right groups were detained for resisting police efforts and for trying to break into the territory of the other group’s rally.
The ultra-nationalist groups shouted at the minister “shameful” and “leave”, slamming him for apologizing while addressing their opponents, who are demanding a liberal drug policy.
Right now, as media says, the members of the nationalist groups still stand on Rustaveli Avenue.
