Georgia’s Janelidze Participates in Astana Economic Forum

The Georgian Vice Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Mikheil Janelidze participated in the Astana Economic Forum - Global Challenges Summit 2018, on May 17.

The forum was dedicated to issues relating to global development, digital economy, modern and future technologies and the challenges facing the international community.
 
The Global Challenges Summit 2018 brought together speakers from different countries, including former UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon, Former President of France François Hollande, Apple co-founder Steve Wozniak, futurist Michio Kaku, and Jim O'Neill, the British financier and the former Chief Economist of Goldman Sachs.

During the visit to Kazakhstan, Janelidze met his Kazakh counterpart, Kairat Abdrakhmanov, and discussed mutual cooperation between the two countries in various fields, including tourism, transport and trade.

The Georgian Foreign Minister highlighted the huge potential of transport and transit co-operation between the two countries. The two ministers reaffirmed their bilateral interest in co-operation in the area of investments. They also spoke about Georgia’s development possibilities resulting from the free trade agreement with the EU and the formation of stable, reliable and transparent business environment.   

The ministers also signed the Co-operation Program between the Foreign Ministries of Georgia and the Republic of Kazakhstan for 2018-2019.

The program envisages promotion of co-operation in various areas of bilateral relations and intensification of co-operation between the Ministries.


Within the framework the visit, the Georgian minister also held meetings with representatives of the executive and legislative branches of the government, as well as with the President, Prime Minister, Chairmen of the Parliament and the Senate.
