Number of HIV/AIDS Cases up in Georgia
The data of 20 May 2018 reads that there are 270 new cases of HIV / AIDS in Georgia.
The information was released by the Infectious Pathology and AIDS Center, which released its statistics on Sunday.
The data reads that there are 30 more cases this year, compared to the same period of 2017.
The Center's statistics read that the number of cases of HIV / AIDS in the country increased and amounted to7032. 5248 are males and 1764 are women. AIDS developed in 3,772 patients while 1,440 people died from the disease.
According to the World Health Organization and local experts, the number of cases of HIV / AIDS in Georgia is much higher than the number of registered cases, adding it is around 11,000.
The AIDS Center says among the ways of the disease transmission, the highest number - 45.4% comes to heterosexual contact. 41.3% of patients got infected by injection of drugs and 10% were homosexual / bi-sexual contact. 1.4% was infected from their mothers, during pregnancy and 0.5% got infected during the blood transfusion.
May 20 commemorates the people who died from AIDS.
The first case of AIDS was recorded in Georgia in 1989.
