Two Miners Die in Tkibuli
Georgian media reports that two workers died in Tkibuli coal mine, a town in west-central Georgia, Imereti region, on Saturday morning.
According to unofficial sources, the miners died from air failure in the mine.
After the bodies were removed from the mine, they were transferred to Kutaisi forensic bureau for autopsy. The deceased workers - Sandro Butskhrikidze and Rezo Lomtadze - were then transported to their homes in Kisoreti village , Tkibuli Municipality.
According to the Interior Ministry, an investigation has been launched into the case under the second part of Article 240 of the Criminal Code of Georgia, which implies a violation of safety rules in mining, construction or other works. The offense envisages up to 5 years of imprisonment.
In early April, a tunnel collapse in Mindeli mine in Tkibuli left six miners dead and three injured.
