Protest Rally Organizer Kuprava Announces Separate Rallies
Zviad Kuprava, organizer of the rally started by the father of a teen murdered in December, Zaza Saralidze, made a statement a few minutes ago saying he and Saralidze’s positions do not match and he intends to continue fight against the “regime” alone, with supporters and opposition parties.
Kuprava, who is said to be an activist of the former ruling party United National Movement (UNM), had been next to Saralidze since the rally started three days ago, calling for the resignation of the government. Once he even announced that the rallies were beginning of a “velvet revolution” in Georgia.
However, according to media, Saralidze decided to cooperate with a re-launched investigation, which Kuprava was dissatisfaction about. He called on the opposition parties to gather at the old building of the parliament on June 3 at 18:00, in order to “continue fighting against the system.”
Kuprava left the rally with his supporters, who are shouting “Zviad!” and marching towards the Opera House, where they are going to hold a meeting in the office of the opposition National Democratic Party.
