Video Showing “Staged Provocation” at Rustaveli Rally Goes Viral on Facebook

After the Prime Minister of Georgia was expelled by protesters from the rally, held in solidarity with the teenagers murderd on Khorava St. and their families, a video has gone viral on social networks showing that the situation at the rally was escalated by a group of people standing near the PM while he was trying to calm the crowd and speak.

The video shows two men standing near Kvirikashvili giving hand signals to others in the crowd, in all appearances encouraging them to start throwing objects at the Prime Minister.

In his address, made from the governmental administration some time after the incident, the PM underlined that the majority of protesters had accepted him and wanted to listen to what he had to say but that a group of "politically motivated people" had escalated the situation.

“Our government is the people’s government…This is why I decided to go to the rally and first of all to the father of a murdered child. I knew there would be provocations. My arrival there was accepted by the majority of people but a politically motivated group did not let me speak,” the PM stated.

The PM also commented on the calls for his resignation, saying that when he is sure such a step will benefit the country, he will definitely take it.

“But today the moment has not come…The post means nothing to me, for me it is important to keep stability in the country,” the Prime Minister said.

Kvirikashvili made a promise that the murder case of the two teenagers will be re-investigated and all the offenders will be held responsible.
