Russian Military Exercises in Occupied South Ossetia
The Russian military is conducting exercises in Georgia’s Tskhinvali region/South Ossetia, which has been occupied by Russian forces since the 2008 Russia-Georgia War.
According to the Russian military press service, more than 25,000 military personnel and around 500 units of military equipment are involved in the exercises.
The so-called armed forces of occupied South Ossetia are also participating in the joint exercises.
The de facto South Ossetian Ministry of Defense said "Such joint exercises facilitate the enhancement of necessary knowledge and skills of the officers.”
Russia regularly conducts military exercises in occupied territories including South Ossetia, Abkhazia, and Crimea (Ukraine).
