Care About the City Campaign to Increase Tbilisians’ Social Responsibility

This afternoon, Tbilisi Mayor Kakha Kaladze announced a new social campaign from City Hall titled Care About the City, which aims to raise awareness of the need for social responsibility in the capital and develop a culture of ownership and pride in the city.

City Hall is hosting a competition for the best concept for the new campaign. They put out the call to advertising and marketing agencies to create a public awareness campaign, including outcome-oriented events and activities involving Tbilisi inhabitants.

Kaladze said, “We are launching a new project ‘Care About the City’ and I think very soon it will become very important for several reasons. First – we need to break the stereotype that Tbilisi City Hall and the Tbilisi Mayor are the only ones responsible for Tbilisi’s development. Of course, we all understand our responsibilities and we will do our best to develop Tbilisi further, but society’s involvement in this process is very important.”

He went on to emphasize that all of Tbilisi’s residents must care about the city the same way they care about their homes and be personally invested in making Tbilisi an even better place to live.

“We face many issues with vandalism,” Kaladze continued, “We see how newly rehabilitated squares are being damaged. The same happens with new buses. Unfortunately, there are many similar cases. We all should understand that this city belongs to all of us and we should care for it in the same way we care about our homes.”

Incidents of littering and vandalism, such as graffiti and damaging public property, make this campaign sorely needed. The campaign is intended to promote the development of social responsibility in adults and young people, to instill it as a habit for future generations. It will accompany city landscape development, preserving projects developed by Tbilisi City Hall and boosting the effectiveness of related public service activities.

City Hall will have an open call for campaign proposals until July 9. The winner of the competition will be announced by July 30.
