Heavy Rains Again Flood Parts of Tbilisi

Heavy rains once again paralyzed parts of Tbilisi.

On Monday night, the area around Akhmeteli metro station flooded due to the brief but powerful thunderstorms that rolled in in the evening. The underground street crossing near the metro also flooded, making it unuseable for pedestrians. In the Gldani and Nadzaladevi neighborhoods, there was strong hail alongside the rain.

One week ago, Tbilisi and the surrounding areas also experienced severe rain storms, causing flooding in parts of the capital that closed major streets such as around Heroes' Square in the Saburtalo neighborhood. High waters stranded cars in Gldani and Akhmeteli. The Emergency Management Service in Tbilisi received 153 calls during the night of June 11-12 from citizens needing help. Rustavi also experienced severe flooding that damaged infrastructure and trapped drivers in their cars. Hail damaged crops in Gori and Natakhtari.

No serious damage or casualties were reported by Tbilisi's Emergency Situations Management Service. The forecast for the rest of the week is dry.
