Gov't Plans to Set up Eco-Ombudsman's Institution
The Georgian government plans to introduce the institution of Eco-Ombudsman, which will become an important environmental review platform having a high level of trust from the governmental agencies, the business sector and society.
The changes are included in the governmental program presented by PM candidate Mamuka Bakhtadze to Parliament.
The program indicates that environmental protection, sustainability and rational use of natural resources, in parallel with the sustainable development of agriculture, are significant challenges and among the priorities of the Government of Georgia.
“For rational use of natural resources, ecological safety and sustainability, and the avoidance of risks of natural disasters, it is necessary to establish an effective environmental institution, which is only possible through a complex approach,” the document reads.
The program reads that important economic decisions should be made only after evaluating ecologic factors. In order to achieve this goal, the program reads that the Government of Georgia will continue to work on the development of a green economy.
“In the process of introduction of the green economy, the Government of Georgia intends to encourage green investments, ecologically pure food production and green products through concrete initiatives,” the document says.
Parliament will declare trust in the new government on June 20.
