Tbilisi’s TV Tower to Get Makeover

Tbilisi City Hall has announced plans to update one of the city’s most famous landmarks – the TV Tower on Mtatsminda. Currently the tower, which sits high in the center of the city, next to the Ferris wheel, is not open to the public. The much-photographed pair is a symbol of the city, appearing on various logos and in nearly every silhouette of Tbilisi’s skyline.

City Hall plans to renovate the Tbilisi Tower to make it more functional for public use. Mayor Kakha Kaladze told reporters on June 28 that his team is discussing three possible options. One potential plan is to build an addition onto the tower, where food and entertainment facilities will be located.
