Russia-Detained Georgian Border Guards Released
Two Georgian border guards, who crossed the Georgia-Russia border on June 27 and were detained, have been released today.
The information was released by Georgia’s Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA).
The Ministry said that representatives of the Border Service of the Russian Federation transferred the two border guards to the Georgian side at 12:00.
Two days ago, two border guards of the Lagodekhi Division of the Border Police of Georgia arrived in the Dagestan section of the State Border of Georgia-Russian Federation to open another temporary summer checkpoint according to the planned task.
For some time, there was no communication with the border guards and we began a search operation for them. At the same time, the Georgian Interior Ministry's Border Police Department revealed that the border guards were on the territory of the Russian Federation.
The Georgian MIA launched negotiations with the Russian side and the agreement was reached.
