June Inflation at -0.6%

In June 2018 the monthly inflation rate amounted to -0.6 %. Compared to the same period last year, the Consumer Price Index change (annual inflation rate) saw a 2.2% increase. This month’s inflation rate was influenced by price changes for food and non-alcoholic beverages, transport, alcoholic beverages and tobacco. Below is a breakdown of the groups published by GeoStat:

Food and non-alcoholic beverages: prices in the group decreased by 2.6%, contributing -0.79 % to the overall CPI change. Prices decreased for the following subgroups: fruit and grapes (-14.6%), vegetables (-13.9 %), milk, cheese and eggs (-2.3 %), oils and fats (-0.8 %). In the meantime, the prices increased for meat (0.9 %); 

Transport: prices went up by 0.8 %, contributing 0.1 % to the overall index change. Prices increased for operation of personal transport equipment (1.5 %). Meanwhile, the prices were lower for the subgroup of purchase of vehicles (-2.1 %); 

Alcoholic beverages and tobacco: prices in the group were up by 1.1 %, with a relevant contribution of 0.08 % to the monthly inflation. Prices increased for the subgroup of tobacco (1.6%). 

The annual inflation rate was mainly influenced by transport (prices increased by 4.5%), housing, water, electricity, gas and other fuels (prices went up by 5.2%), health (prices increased by 5.1%) and alcoholic beverages and tobacco (prices increased by 4.9%)
