Additional Forces Sent in to Fight Svaneti Fire

Fire continued to spread in the Zeskho forest in Kvemo Svaneti overnight. Due to the difficult relief, firemen have been unable to access the blaze.

Since early morning, additional forces have been brought to fight the fire.

"Additional forces have been mobilized. Firefighter-rescuers worked all night long and now there is only smoke," said ays Deputy Director of Emergency Management Agency Levan Maisuradze. "It is hoped the fire will not spread further as, at present, there is no open fire. We added additioanal forces because it has become almost impossible to work due to the difficult relief. But now the firefighters are able to move with the help of special equipment. Shida Kartli Region is working with us and in total, we have up to 220 firemen."

A helicopter is involved in the liquidation works. The Mayor of Lentekhi municipality is also on the spot. 

According to the data, 2.5 hectares of land has been damaged as a result of the fire.
