Kaladze Hosts Local Gov Representatives Attending OGP Summit
Tbilisi Mayor Kakha Kaladze held a reception yesterday at the City Assembly for representatives of local governments worldwide participating in the "Open Government Partnership" (OGP) Global Summit, taking place this week in Tbilisi.
Kaladze addressed the summit participants, thanking them for visiting Georgia.
"It is a great honor for us to host the Global Summit of the Open Government Partnership and reiterate our support for the principles that this initiative envisages. We are ready to implement those reforms that have already begun. It is very important that the population be involved in the city management and we are planning to implement very interesting projects in this direction,” he said.
City Council Chairman Giorgi Tkemaladze, Deputy Mayor of Tbilisi Ilia Eloshvili, and several city council deputies also attended the reception.
As lead co-chair of OGP, Georgia will host the 5th OGP Global Summit in Tbilisi, July 17-19.
90 local government representatives, and representatives from the OGP's 96 national and local participants will participate in the summit, including heads of state and governments, ministers, civil servants, members of parliament, local authorities, civil society representatives, international foundations, researchers, academia and journalists. Participants will promote their achievements and discuss the challenges in upholding the principles of open governance.
According to the OGP website, the 2018 summit “will focus on civic engagement, fighting against corruption, and public service delivery. The objectives of the Summit are to promote peer learning, inspire OGP reformers to raise the level of ambition, and push the open government agenda forward to address new challenges and improve the lives of citizens around the world.”
