Kakheti: Deputy Director-General Visits EU Projects
At the beginning of the week, Katarina Mathernova, Deputy Director-General for Neighborhood and Enlargement Negotiations at the European Commission, travelled to the Kakheti Georgian region to highlight EU support for the territory, meeting EU project beneficiaries in Kvareli, Telavi and Lagodekhi.
“The European Union has supported Kakheti for many years,” she said. “I met with people whose lives have improved thanks to the EU (…). Local initiatives supported by the EU have led to economic development, social benefits, and empowerment of citizens.”
Mathernova said the EU will support micro-enterprises and community centers and any initiatives to provide vocational education and training adapted to market needs.
EU assistance to Georgia amounts to over €100 million (GEL 270 million) per year. Indeed, sustainable, inclusive and smart growth of the Georgian economy is a priority for EU-Georgia cooperation.
