Man Struck By Lightning

A man was struck by lightning on Mkinvartsveri peak.

A 49-year-old Russian citizen on Mkinvartsveri peak, also known as Mount Kazbek, was struck by lightning whilst hiking near 4,300 meters above sea level. The health of the man is not at risk and is in a stable condition, as reported by The Georgian Emergency Management Service

Mount Kazbek is a dormant volcano and one of the major mountains of the Caucasus, being the third-highest peak in Georgia, and is located on the border of Georgia's Kazbegi District and Russia's Republic of North Ossetia–Alania.

Mount Kazbek is also associated in Georgian folklore with Amirani, the Georgian version of Prometheus, who was chained on the mountain in punishment for having stolen fire from the gods and having given it to mortals. The location of his imprisonment later became the site of an Orthodox hermitage located in a cave called "Betlemi".  According to legends, this cave housed many sacred relics, including Abraham's tent and the manager of the infant Jesus.
