Infamous Crime Lord Dies
Infamous Georgian thief-in-law Avtandil Khetsuriani, known as the Avto Boxer, has passed away at the age of 48, due to cancer.
Facing his first conviction in October 1993 in Georgia, he was sentenced to prison for a number of crimes, including car theft, storage of weapons, robbery, as well as the kidnapping of Police Major General Elgudzhi Butskhrikidze, for which he served 13 years.
In 2005, Khetsuriani was released and immediately left Georgia, using forged documents to cross the Ukrainian border. There, he took control of several criminal groups and it took law enforcement three months to locate him, after which he was deported back to Tbilisi, Georgia.
After his release, he moved to Baku, where he gathered a Georgian gang around him. It did not take long for the Azerbaijani security forces to neutralize the gang, and he was detained in Baku with a weapon, ammunition and drugs sized from him. The Court had no evidence to prove Khetsuriani’s involvement in burglaries, and he was given only two years for possession of weapons and drugs.
After his next release, Khetsuriani was caught in 2009 in Moscow suburbs. He was sentenced for three years in a general regime colony for possession. After his release, Khetsuriani was expelled to Georgia.
It was reported that after these events he became ill and stopped participating in illegal activities. He sought treatment in France but was denied entry due to his criminal history. He passed away in Milan, Italy. His body is planned to be sent to Kutaisi, where he was born.
