New Recreational Space to Replace Garages on Chikovani
The area around Simon Chikovani St. (formerly Khiliani St.) number 18 will be expanded and a new parking lot and small park will be built. After a collective decision by the area’s residents, the district administration of Saburtalo dismantled approximately 30 garages that were previously on the spot.
Tbilisi Mayor Kakha Kaladze visited the planned infrastructure works on Chikovani and met with Saburtalo district governor Gaioz Vasadze and Levan Gogichaishvili and Vakhtang Shakarishvili, majoritarian MPs from the Sakrebulo (City Assembly).
"Around 30 garages were demolished on the territory. The local population is actively involved in the process. I am glad that our initiative has had a very good response. A great space was released where a very good square would be made. Also, playgrounds for children will be arranged...it will be the best rest area and green space for the people living here. I am glad that the population is here and we are working together on this project, "said Kakha Kaladze.
Following the initiative of Tbilisi City Hall, several dozen garages have already been demolished in several areas of the capital, according to the demands of the population. Instead, the amenities will be carried out on the territory and the recreational areas will be established.
