Ukrainian Nuclear Plants Working without Russian Supply
Westinghouse Electric Company (USA) announced yesterday that Unit 3 of the South Ukraine nuclear power plant has been loaded with nuclear fuel manufactured in Sweden.
Currently, the company supplies fuel to 6 of the 15 nuclear power reactors that Ukraine has. The Ukrainian government plans to increase that to seven from 2021.
The third unit of the South Ukraine Nuclear Power Plant is the first power generation unit which is fully working with Westinghouse fuel. It is a step further in the energy diversification process in order to remove Ukraine from the Russian sphere of influence, a key objective for the Ukrainian government since the bloody revolution events lead eastern Ukraine to break away, supported by Russia, and since the Crimea “annexation” by Russia in 2014.
