Georgia's Interior Minister Meets FBI Head

Within the framework of an official visit to the United States, the Minister of Internal Affairs of Georgia, Giorgi Gakharia met the director of the US Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) Christopher Wray on July 28.

At the meeting, the sides discussed the importance of cooperation between law enforcement agencies of two countries in the fight against trans-boundary organized crime and cybercrime.

As the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) of Georgia reports, the sides discussed current and planned activities within the framework of bilateral cooperation, the challenges facing the Ministry in cybercrime and the priority directions for future cooperation, including the training of Georgian policemen at the Federal Bureau Academy.

FBI Chief and Minister Gakharia agreed that Georgia’s Central Criminal Police investigators will be trained in the FBI Academy, particularly in the investigative direction.

In addition, the Minister of Internal Affairs, together with the delegation, got acquainted with the methods of studies at the academy of the FBI.

During his visit, Georgian Minister also met US Department of Export Control and Border Security Program Philip Dolyff and the Head of the US Bureau of International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Affairs (INL) with Kirsten Madison.
