1.6 mln GEL to Popularize Georgia as Int’l Education Hub

The Ministry of Education and Science of Georgia has announced that it has been allocated 1.6 million GEL ($65,000) from the state budget to popularize Georgia as an international educational hub. The funds are to be spent by the end of 2018.

The Ministry of Education and six universities have been given permission to make purchases under a simplified procurement process to hire advertising agencies, participate in international education exhibits, and arrange exhibition spaces and other events.

“Since the Ministry of Education, Science, Culture and Sport of Georgia and higher education institutions cannot directly contact foreign students/patients, we plan to launch cooperation with providers and agencies in foreign countries, which are engaged in attracing foreign students and patients and, in this way, they will popularize Georgia’s educational opportunities,” says the statement from the Ministry.

990,000 GEL of the 1.6 million will be allocated to state medical universities. Other funds will go to Gori Teaching University, Ilia State University, Georgian Technical University, Akaki Tsereteli State University, and Javakhishvili State University to help them attract foreign students. The remaining sum will be spent by the Ministry of Education itself, for organizing events and for conducting research.
